Accessibility Statement
How accessible is VivaEdu?
We have taken as much effort as possible to make VivaEdu as accessible as possible. WCAG 2.2 AA is being worked towards across core student and instructor workflows. Some areas are still in progress, and I am actively improving keyboard navigation, focus states, and semantic labels.
Assistive technologies
Designed for keyboard‑only navigation, browser zoom, reduced motion preferences, high‑contrast interfaces, and modern screen readers (e.g., VoiceOver, NVDA). If your setup doesn’t work as expected, contact us and we’ll prioritise a fix.
Student preferences
- Reduced motion and flash suppression
- Larger buttons
- Keyboard shortcuts
- High contrast mode
- Hide timer (reduce anxiety)
Accommodations (instructor‑set, can be permanent)
- Extra time (25%, 50%, 100%, unlimited up to 5 minutes)
- Pause/Resume
- Rerecording (max one re‑record per question)
- Typing mode (text responses instead of audio)
- No camera required (exemption)
Multilingual
Instructors can require target‑language vivas. Non‑native English speakers may hear and read questions in their preferred language and respond in that language; responses are translated back for instructor review. Instructors can translate submissions to their preferred language.
Requesting accommodations
- Students: request through your institution/instructor.
- Instructors/admins: configure accommodations in the instructor dashboard or email support for bulk updates.

Response and monitoring
- Acknowledgement within 1 day; fix/implementation within 3 days.
Reporting issues
Email jex@vivaedu.co.uk with details, specifically browser/OS, as a few of the accommodations have had technical issues in the past with different browsers. Will seek and implement a fix within 3 days.
No extra charges
There are no additional fees for accessibility accommodations, nor will there ever be.
